Generation of the design response spectrum according to JTG/T B02-01--2008

SettingDescription
Option: Horizontal/Vertical Selection of the response spectra to be generated
Bridge Class

Bridge class in reference to the definitions in the JTG (A to D, B - Highway, User-defined)

  • B - Highway uses the values for highway, first class highway bridge and super large bridge
  • User-defined allows for defining any user-specific values for the factor Ci
Earthquake Earthquake type in reference to the definitions in the JTG (E1, E2)
Importance Factor Ci (-) Evaluated from the selection of Bridge Class and Earthquake in reference to the table 3.1.4-2 in the JTG (dimensionless)
Seismic Intensity

Seismic intensity in reference to the definitions in the JTG (6 - 0.05g, 7 - 0.10g, 7 - 0.15g, 8 - 0.20g, 8 - 0.30g, 9 - 0.40g, User-defined)

  • User-defined allows for defining any user-specific values for the factor Cs
Ground type Ground type in reference to the definitions in the JTG (I to IV)
Site Factor Cs (-) Evaluated from the selection of Seismic Intensity and Ground type in reference to the table 5.2.2 in the JTG (dimensionless)
Characteristic Period

Standard Characteristic Site Period in reference to the definitions in the JTG (0.35, 0.40, 0.45, User-defined)

  • User-defined allows for defining any user-specific values for Tg
Characteristic Site Period Tg (s) Evaluated from the selection of Characteristic Period and Ground type in reference to the table 5.2.3 in the JTG (in seconds)
Damping ratio (%) Damping ratio in terms of percent
ξ (Xi) (-) Damping value (dimensionless)
Cd (-)

Damping adjustment coefficient (dimensionless)

Evaluated from ξ (Xi) according to equation (5.2.4) in the JTG

Subsoil Type

Subsoil type in reference to the definitions in the JTG for the definition of the vertical response spectrum (Soil, Rock, User-defined)

  • Soil selects the functions for R (T) according to equations (5.2.5-2) in the JTG
  • Rock sets R to the constant value of 0.65 according to (5.2.5-1) in the JTG
  • User-defined allows for defining any user-specific values for R
R (-)

Factor describing the relation of vertical / horizontal response spectrum (dimensionless)

I.e. the vertical response spectrum is derived from multiplying the horizontal response spectrum by the factor R.

Output variable

Name of the variable that describes the response spectrum

The default name will be set up as JTG_S and JTG_Sv respectively. A two-digit alpha-numeric suffix can be added to that names (e.g. in case that more than one response spectrum is generated to not overwrite the existing ones).

The variable (and the related variables, formulas and tables) is stored in Properties > Variables and can be used when defining the earthquake load (Schedule > Load Definition > Earthquake Load).

The variable describing the response spectrum will be given in terms of S/A (-) and Sv/A (-) as a function of the period T (s), where A is the peak ground acceleration value in m/s2 as defined in table 3.2.2 in the JTG.

Therefore the respective design ground accelerations must be considered when defining the vectors within the earthquake load definition.
